Norwescon 34
Apr. 24th, 2011 08:01 pmThis was one of the best and most memorable of Norwescons in a while, and after sixteen years of semi-consistent attendance, that's saying a lot. It's hard to beat out my teen years as Nymphkitten when I was mobile, able to dance, and able to go without sleep for 72 hours.
Ana participated in the masquerade this year, having created a concept character from Megamind called Megamind's Daughter. Although she had no competition and her awards were won by default, because she sewed the dress and cape, the Costumer's Guild gave her a special prize as well. She'll be using those beads for her next costume and a whole lot of jewelry.
It felt so good being backstage again, even though I wasn't performing. Getting to help in the makeshift greenroom reminded me of my acting days, and I met some incredibly wonderful people. I glittered Jareth and Sarah, bowed to a Bene Gesserit witch, and helped wherever I could without getting too much in the way.
I had a lengthy pair of conversations with a woman from Anchorage just as much (or even more) in love with linguistics, costuming, and DIY. I danced with Jareth (and held his balls, ahem), a very sweet teenager with great dance moves, and literally got swept off my feet by a man who now resembles a smiling blur in the memory of my I-can't-get-a-breath whirling.
There were many hugs given and received, a many good friendly chat, and the possibility of new friendships. All-in-all, worth having to hobble--mosey? shamble?--around my house today.
