Anyone local have recommendations for Beltane this year? We missed all celebrations last year, and I really want to give Ana more opportunities to share in my beliefs. So, any plans that we can share in? Or any open locations that are being used as a group celebration that welcomes new people would be good.

rant about public expectoration--it's gross; cut for swearing and yuck )

Ana updates: We're working on phonics, she can write all the alphabet well, sings it, and can count very well, too. She wants to learn about computers, and her little predictions about what's going to happen soon have been very on. On Saturday, we went to the UW's Engineering Open house, and before we caught the bus, she told me, "we're catching two buses." I told her that no, we just need to catch one, but she was right--we just barely missed the bus we needed and caught a different one that required us to transfer closer to home. Then later that evening I suggested we head downtown and watch a movie, and she said, "I want to stay home now and see the movie tomorrow." Half an hour later, the sunny day turned to a horrendous downpour, and I couldn't help thinking how miserable we'd have been walking to the theatre in that rain and then waiting for a bus later that evening.

I bought her a couple of very inexpensive workbooks today, made our reward wheels this evening, and picked up some index cards, which I'll turn into phonics flash cards when the Phonics Pathways comes in at the library. I spent a lot of time today on buses, after two hours of non-stop job applying at WorkFirst, I hopped a bus to Greenwood, grabbed a cheeseburger (yay!), and stopped in at the library. I picked up Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bubbles, Rainbows, and Worms (a preschool science book), a second book on teaching 4-9 year olds, a couple of CD's, and Little Women read on CD for Ana to listen to. When she told me she wanted to read, I had to do something to help her along. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] damashita, for the tip about A Well-Trained Mind: Classical Education at Home, it's giving me a lot more insight into what I can do for Ana at home, even if she's going to public school for a little while. So far, the Bubbles, Rainbows, et al and Well-Trained Mind are two I want to have in my own library. I also need a new copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory since most of my children's books were lost/destroyed at David's house. The preschool director told me I was such a great mom, and I didn't immediately want to prove her wrong or feel guilty ... maybe I'm starting to get some of this right. Ha!

Anyway, we're doing well. [livejournal.com profile] jodawi should be by in the next couple of days to poke at Kalinda, and I hope we can get things settled about all this. Please let me be able to get the data off of the hard drive and reinstall Windows! The worst case scenario is that the hard drive is damaged, not just a corrupted file, in that case, I lose everything that isn't backed up on disc from before. If it was just a virus, I should be able to get my stuff back and the hard drive working again. Right? That's my understanding.

Much love to all.
