Merry Solstice to all. I do hope it was a time of introspection and joy for those of you who celebrate.
Ana greatly enjoyed being at my office and we had a fabulous lunch (seafood bisque, shrimp with pea vine, vegetable potstickers, brown rice) despite my jaw pain. We ordered far more than we could eat and the leftovers will be my lunch tomorrow. She was completely enchanted with Uwajimaya, as I thought she would be, and in the seafood department, I let her pick her choice of snack. She chose sashimi tako (raw, sliced octopus); I told her three of her grandparents love it too. ^__^
We got soaked walking hither and non, and were exhausted by the time we left the office and went home. Ana fell asleep on the bus. We took a nap after arriving home and opted out of the birthday dinner with
periwinklebliss and family, planning on heading out for a show of Rent later. Unfortunately, it never happend, though I do hope S. had a wonderful celebration, she certainly deserves it. Feeling any better, love?
In making shrimp tempura, I somehow didn't notice that my finger was reaching into the boiling olive oil and brought it back out screaming. It took an hour of icing it and coating it with aloe vera to calm it down, although now it's just a little rough-feeling. We also ate chocolate cake from my office and watched a few weird shows. I also stubbed my little toe so badly tonight that it bent back half the nail and apparently bled quite a bit. There was some clean up when I realized. I think both accidents came about because, without my glasses, my depth perception is poor. It's why I usually draw so two-dimensionally.
I'll have to put off making California rolls for my co-workers until tomorrow night. It's already past midnight, I've ranted to the Washington State Department of Health about their Ashtray Mouth campaign, written to Q13 about it (who featured a family suing the DOH over it), and worked on my finances to no avail. I've also written a third letter to a vendor who has neither responded to my previous emails nor sent me my product or returned my payment.
I still haven't written our holiday letters, so those and the CDs that are coming with them (Ana's CDs) are going to be a bit late. Maybe beginning of the new year late. This, of course, is a good time to ask for people to send emails with mailing addresses to me if you want a CD of Ana's favorite music and our Yule letter.
Big thanks to
singswithtrees for fulfilling one of Ana's wishes, and to
threegoldfish and
samanthalake for the holiday cards. The former is beautifully handmade and the latter made me giggle. We've got them displayed on our fridge along with my father's holiday photo card with my two sisters looking a-door-bell!
Our rosemary mini-tree is decorated with origami crane and dragonflies, boa yarn for trim, and little shimmery white-pink bows. We're talking about twisting red and white wire to make tiny candy canes, 'cause
beaq loves dem candy canes. Can we use grape nuts in place of popcorn? ^__^
Love and light to all tonight.
