Ok, so I kinda sorta knew that Flickr.com could be used in a community sorta way. Right? Right. What I didn't realize was how many people would be randomly searching for images and stumble across mine. I have over 30 new messages in my flickr in box all telling me how fabulous my photos are. I figure they're about as gratuitous as LJ comments, but nevertheless, I over 30 messages and even more comments on particular photos, most of them by people I don't know. (Three people I do know added me as a friend: mom,
hollyking, and
bzarcher. You've been added back.)
In the myriad comments and favoritings, et al, I came across a particular message from another mom who warned me that a certain undesireable had added a couple of my kid photos to his collection of favorites. Sure enough, I go to see his favorites, and they definitely suggest (to me anyway) pedophile. Thanks to her, I know I can block him and those like him from adding our pictures. With this new knowledge, I went back to see who was adding me and selecting some of my photos of children as favorites. For the most part, they're other parents, nudists, art lovers, or some combination there in. A person's favorites can give it away fairly quickly to me ... when the favorites are nothing but naked kids in some suggestive pose mixed in with a few adult penises, I'm not thinking "oh here's a friendly chap," but if they have some nudists splashing about, pictures of sculptures and masks from around the world, artistic mood photos, etc., I don't mind them hanging around to check out my next upload.
However, after answering messages, checking out the suspicious, and learning how to navigate through the community there, it's much later than I intended it to be, so no new photos will be uploaded tonight (sorry Mom). I did start the prep work for it (mostly turning photos 90 degrees here and there, figuring out which ones are scrap, etc.), but no pictures tonight.
30 messages. People telling me how vivid are my colors, how poignant my views. But I promise not to let it go to my head. Oops! Too late. *laughs*
*slaps self* Ok, I need to stop playing Queen and get to bed. I'm starting to get loopy.
