Gardening at the End of May
May. 30th, 2012 01:24 pmSince coming back from Germany . . .
Planted: gardenia, hydrangea, azalea, fuschia, sunflower, six dahlia bulbs, rosemary.
Awaiting planting: sun kissed calla lily, huckleberry, two pea vines, a host of herbs and edibles in the herb spiral.
Awaiting re-potting: chives, cilantro, thyme, summer savory. Still no sign of fragaria virginiana (a small, sweet Pacific strawberry).
Did notice what's survived: moss samples from friend's driveway and parking lot of restaurant, sedum from the master gardener neighbor's yard (offered it up to me) from last fall, succulent ground cover (look like little green teardrop pearls on a chain), and the twin leafy plants I bought at Molbak's, but can't recall what they are. Comfrey? No . . . Didn't I save the tags somewhere? Come on past-Raven, tell me you were smart about this!
Also surviving: the grass. Must weed out and replace with moss!!! We could really use a goat right now. :\
Not surviving: blue camas (never came up), uva ursi (a.k.a bear berry, although the salmonberries and blackberries are in high competition, more than usual), and at least six other native species. At least the salal has survived the constant invasion of Craig's remaining, highly invasive kiwi. It took over the roof last August!!!
If I ever get a goat (ha! get my goat . . . anyway . . . ), think I could train it to keep me warm at night without eating my sheets and shitting on the floor? Think the cats would mind?
