We just got back from the hard-won Pink concert. Apparently, they moved the venue from WaMu theatre in the I-District to Key Arena at Seattle Center (for people not familiar with the area, that's from one end of downtown to beyond the other). We didn't find out until after walking around WaMu Theatre for fifteen minutes trying to find an unlocked door and finally coming upon a lone woman in the box office who told us where to go and what buses to take. I told her that no one updated the WaMu web site, that we never received an email. Ana was in tears.
We were going to give up, but decided to brave the path back to the I-District to find a bus that would take us where we needed to go. By the time we hopped a bus, twilight had turned to darkness, and I got hit on no less than three times by men missing many teeth. *sighs*
Despite being an hour late when we arrived, we still got to hear the Ting Tings finish up their set, ending with our favorite song, "That's Not My Name." We had a long wait until Pink came on and ... wow. She was so worth all of our frustration.
There were aerialists (trapeze artists, ribbon dancers, etc.), acrobats, dancers, an all-girl pillow fight, and a nearly-naked Pink touching herself while singing our beloved DeVinyls song. She did a number of covers besides "When I Think About You," including: AC/DC's "Highway to Hell," Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," a Led Zeppelin song I couldn't name (sorry), and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." When she sang "Dear Mr. President," I cried just as hard as I do when listening to the recorded version, and better yet, despite having a torn ligament in her shoulder, she still made jokes, sometimes at her own expense, and danced around the stage with as much energy as you might expect from her any night.
The encore was un-freaking-believable, and considering this was Ana's first concert (at the same age when I saw David Bowie's Glass Spider Tour), I think it was a good start for other performers to live up to in her lifetime. ^_^
So very glad we braved the buses, and fought our way to the other end of town.

Date: 2009-09-16 04:28 pm (UTC)That concert is the reason he became one of my gods. Seriously. Before that, I just liked his music, but he sang "Young Americans" to me (my mom woke me up and stood me up, I didn't believe her at first that he was singing to *me*), and that did it. Favorite artist in that moment. ^_^
